It is a 2-week festival held every year in the last days of September and the first days of October in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.

When did it started?
The history of the festival starts in 1810. Kronprinz Ludwig (1786-1868), later King Ludwig I (reign: 1825-1848), married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810. Munich citizens were invited to festivities held in the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the royal occasion.
Beer cannot be drunk without permission..
